Worship With Us

Gathering on Sunday

imageWith music, prayer, scripture and a relevant message, we gather as a Christian community for worship on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. to give thanks and praise to God for the many blessings of our lives.

Our order of worship follows a traditional pattern of gathering, hearing God’s Word, proclaiming the Word, responding to the Word and sending forth with blessings and a closing song.  Music is an integral part of our worship experience, and we use a variety of music styles to express ourselves.  On the Fourth Sunday of each month our worship experience is a more contemporary, participatory experience.  We also use drama, media, dance and a variety of instruments as expressions of our faith.

The two sacraments of our tradition are baptism and communion.  Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is celebrated on the second Sunday of each month. At People’s Church we believe everyone is invited to the Lord’s table, therefore we practice open communion.

MUSIC

imagePeople’s Congregational Church has a wide variety of musical opportunities for members of its congregation.  The Chancel Choir provides music for worship from September through May, usually singing at three out of four Sundays per month.  They rehearse on Sunday mornings before the church service and explore music that ranges from Renaissance choral works to hymns and chorales and contemporary compositions.  The Chancel Choir also provides music for special services and events at People’s Church and collaborates with other church choirs in the area.

Students in Sunday School also have the chance to experience music in the Music and Movement portion of the Sunday School curriculum.  Once a month, the classes meet with the Director of Music Ministries for music class.  The children learn songs and do activities that correspond with the lessons in their Sunday School classes.  The students also sing as a part of the worship service several times each year.

.imageA third forum for showcasing the musical talents of the congregation occurs during the summer and on special Sundays throughout the rest of the year. Special Music Sundays provide the opportunity for members of the congregation of any age to share their gifts during worship.

On the Fourth Sunday of each month, the style of the worship service changes.  All aspects of the service become more “contemporary”, including the music.  Singers and instrumentalists, including drums, guitar, and piano, perform contemporary music as part of the Fourth Sunday Services.

People’s Congregational Church also invites guest artists to perform both as part of our services and for special events.  People’s Church hosts the Roy Sakrison Memorial Concert Series, in which established performers from a wide range of musical genres present concerts at the church.  Admission to these concerts is free, with a free-will offering taken to benefit a local cause

Sunday Schedule

9:00am - Worship at People’s Church
We’ll gather in the sanctuary for our familiar style of worship. The organ and piano will be our main instruments for music offerings and we’ll sing the hymns of your choosing.
10:15am - Walk-In or Drive-Up Worship at the Memorial Garden/Labyrinth, Barker’s Alps
Bring a lawn chair or blanket, or stay in your car and drive up to the fence of the People’s Memorial Garden and Labyrinth adjacent to Barker’s Alps. This lovely setting will provide the environment for a worship experience that will include music provided by guitar and keyboard, a relevant message for children and adults and the inspiration of God’s creation. Childcare will be provided.

Fellowship time will be provided following both Worships.
