    About Us

    About People’s Congregational Church

imageWhat is your age, religious belief, political persuasion, marital status, occupation, socio-economic background? No matter. People’s Church is a community of faith that accepts and celebrates one another’s differences. It is our hope and prayer that you may sense the living and loving Spirit of Christ (and fun!) among us. At People’s Church we have FAITH in a loving, life-giving God. Our foremost priority is to love God and one another. We believe that each individual’s relationship with God is unique, and that active attention to a personal faith journey helps one to understand the divine purpose for life. Our path toward God is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. imageAt People’s Church we have the FREEDOM to find God in our own way. We encourage people to live authentically and be who God has called them to be. The Bible and its teachings are used to provide understanding of God and Jesus Christ as well as guide us in our daily living. We honor and encourage our differences, because we know that the Holy Spirit has blessed each one of us with a variety of gifts. At People’s Church, FELLOWSHIP is the key component to creating a life well-lived. Through our prayer-filled love and support of each other, we have a lot of fun, we enjoy thought – provoking conversations, we generate exciting ideas, and we strive to follow the leading of the Spirit.

    WHAT DOES CONGREGATIONAL MEAN?

We trace our history to the Pilgrims who came to this land in search of religious freedom. As Congregationalists we have no set creed or doctrine of faith. We are rooted in the teachings of Christ and seek to be led by the Spirit of God. Congregational church members seek to follow Jesus Christ in accord with their own personal understanding of history and scripture, and each member is pledged to respect all other members’ beliefs, notwithstanding any differences that may exist. Our polity directs all decision-making authority to the congregation. There are no bishops or “higher” ecclesiastical bodies with governing power. People’s Congregational Church is in relationship with other Congregational churches through the National Association of Congregational Churches. www.naccc.org

    SUMMER DISCERNMENT QUESTIONS

The Cabinet and Spiritual Life Board have talked about the next steps in our continuing discernment process about worship at People’s. First, we would like to elevate the conversation from the specific worship questions to a broader look at our goals and where we want to go. We have created a list of questions based on our covenant, vision, and strategic plan. We offer a weekly question for people to answer in writing. You will find the questions in each weekly bulletin as well as on our website. You may turn in your answer at church, to the office, or via email. Please include your name. We will post both questions and responses on a bulletin board. Thank you for your input. QUESTION # 1. Who is our community and how do we strengthen our sense of community? 2. In what ways do we show our loyalty to this fellowship? 3. How do you currently study, practice and spread Christianity? What could People’s do to help with this? 4. How do you describe or explain our core values: a. faith b. freedom c. fellowship d. service 5. What specifically do we do to make People’s a power in the service of God and all people? 6. How do we suport and care for each other as well as support the work of this church? 7. How do we engage people in transforming acts of service? 8. What are the specific elements of joyful worship? And how do we celebrate God’s unconditional love? 9. What does a vibrant faith community look like to you? 10. How does People’s act out “blessed to be a blessing”? 11. How do we grow our faith community as well as revitalize the current members of our community? How do you find spiritual growth?
